My daughter has very sweaty hands, especially when playing tennis on hot days. During practice, her racket slipped out of her hand several times. At first, we treated it as a minor inconvenience, but we later learned that it could also damage the racket.
During one tournament match, the racket slipped out of her hand again. We did not notice any obvious damage at the time, but later that week, her coach discovered that the racket frame had become badly misshapen. The string tension was also completely off. The racket must have hit the ground hard during the match, even though we did not realize how serious the impact was.
Since then, we have tried two products to help her maintain a more secure grip.
1. Tennis Grip With a Raised Ridge
We started using this tennis grip with a raised ridge. The ridge gives her fingers something more noticeable to hold onto and helps the handle feel more secure in her hand.
This can be especially helpful for junior players whose rackets tend to rotate or slip when their hands become sweaty.
2. Grip Enhancer
We also use this grip enhancer. It helps reduce the slippery feeling caused by sweat and gives her better control of the racket during practices and matches.
For her, using the raised grip together with the grip enhancer has worked better than relying on a normal overgrip alone.
A Lesson We Learned
Sweaty hands may seem like a small issue, but repeated racket drops can eventually damage the frame and affect the strings. If a racket slips or hits the court hard, it is worth inspecting the frame immediately rather than waiting until the next lesson.
For players who struggle with sweaty hands, a more secure grip and a grip-enhancing product may help prevent the racket from slipping and provide more confidence during hot-weather matches.
